Equality Objectives Statement

Below are our Equality Objective Statements which have been updated in November 2024 to reflect the systems in place across school to support equlaity and inclusion for all stakeholders:

Equality Objectives - updated September 2025

Objective 1

Staff will feel confident in responding effectively to prejudice-related bullying, as shown in the annual staff survey

Why we have chosen this objective: in line with KCSiE 2025 and the importance of responding to all incidences of child-on-child abuse and incidences of bullying, we will look to ensure that staff are confident in following the policies and procedures to deal with prejudice-related bullying.

To achieve this objective we plan to:

  • Update the Anti-bullying Policy to incorporate the main features of the diversification training led by Syra Shakir from Leeds Trinity University in 2024-2025.
  • Engage in Anti-Bullying events and activities to promote the importance of tackling any incidents of prejudice.
  • Utilise Personal, Relationships and Sex Education (PRSE) session to explore key themes and raise awareness of all of our responsibilities to address prejudice related behaviour.
  • Ensure that all Protected Characteristics are explored and covered through the delivery of the curriculum.

Objective 2

Promotion of cultural understanding and awareness of different cultural, ethnic and religious beliefs within and beyond our school community

Why we have chosen this objective: developing the children’s understanding of global issues beyond school and close community is essential in ensuring that they are prepared to play a role as a global citizen of the future.  Staff CPD in 2024-2025 focused on diversifying our curriculum to incorporate all Protected Characteristics; this is something which needs to be embedded across the whole school.

To achieve this objective, we plan to:

  • Continue to regularly review the curriculum to ensure that it represents all the protected characteristics.
  • Build on the partnership with Leeds Trinity University to ensure that we embed the diversification of  our curriculum; this will form part of the School Improvement Plan (SIP) for 2025-2026.
  • Deliver a high quality curriculum which celebrates and embraces different beliefs and values from around the globe; this will be supplemented by assembly themes and work towards the British Council’s International Schools’ Award.
  • Update governors (via Headteacher Reports) will focus on the protected characteristics and how they are represented across the school and the impact of this.

Objective 3

Continue to improve accessibility across the school for students, staff and visitors with disabilities, including access to specialist teaching areas

Why we have chosen this objective: The context of children entering school has changed significantly post-Covid 19; it is imperative that we regularly review and enhance the learning provision we provide to all our learners.

To achieve this objective, we plan to:

  • Update and implement the Learning and Teaching Policy in September 2025 (this will be adapted based on the initial implementation in September 2024) to ensure consistency in the delivery of the John Blow Primary School curriculum.
  • Continually monitor and review internal (and external where available) information to identify ways to support individual needs.
  • Explore the protected characteristics through assembly themes to raise the awareness of these to our learners.
  • Raise the profile of the protected characteristics within and across the school environment.
  • Liaise with the Family SENDCo and local schools to access the best possible care and support for our learners.
